Help me find my car - Get Paid $1,000
Provide the tip that leads me to finding my car and I'll pay you $1,000. Simple as that.
1965 Checker Marathon A12 - VIN# A12657941417A
What is this about?
My name is Matt. I restored a Checker Marathon with my dad back in high school. Unfortunately we sold it when I graduated college in 2006. I want to find and buy the car back. That's easier said than done. If you can provide the tip that ultimately leads to me finding the car I will give you $1000 USD.
Why can't you find the car?
We sold the car to a movie prop car company. It was used in the movie American Gangster with Denzel Washington and Russel Crowe. Pretty cool, right?
The unfortunate thing is that movie prop cars don't need to be registered since they're not driven on public roads. Movie prop car companies also trade cars with one another very frequently with little records kept. Even if the car was registered, the VIN format of a car from the 60's is different from today and sites like CarFax don't recognize the old VIN format.
This all makes it very hard to find the car. This is why I need your help.
How do I get paid?
It's simple. Provide a tip that I feel provided the most help in finding the car and I'll pay you $1,000 USD. If your tip ultimately leads to discovering that the car was destroyed then I will pay you $250.
For me to pay you $1,000 based on your tip I must be able to travel to the car, physically touch it, confirm the VIN myself, and the car should be considered at least 'able to be restored to driving condition' if not already able to be driven. If it's sitting in a barn rusting and needs work ,then I will still pay you the $1,000. If the car is beyond repair or records can prove the car was destroyed then you will get $250.
I do not have to purchase the car for you to receive the $1,000. This money is simply for tracking down the vehicle.
Method of payment will be discussed later, but I'm willing to work with you on finding a reasonable method of payment.
What are the details and last known whereabouts of the car?
For complete details visit the 'Car Info' page of this site.
The car is a 1965/1966 Checker Marathon A12. It had a 283ci Chevy V-8 with a 3 speed 'on the tree' manual transmission. It was originally a private car painted green with blue/green interior and not sold as a taxi. My father and I restored it and had it painted to look like a yellow NYC taxi, but the blue/green interior remained the same.
The VIN # is A12657941417A
I was living in Southern New Jersey when we sold it and I believe it was then shipped up towards New York City for filming.
